Abdominoplasty, also known as a tummy tuck, tightens the abdominal wall and removes excessive skin and fatty tissue. There are three types of abdominoplasty surgery: mini abdominoplasty, lipoabdominoplasty and full abdominoplasty.
What are the different types of Tummy Tucks?
A full abdominoplasty removes excess skin and fatty tissue from the abdomen. Sutures will be placed in the abdominal wall to tighten the muscles. The umbilicus will be relocated to the same position, but it will be coming through skin that has been pulled down. A full abdominoplasty will require the usage of drains on both hips.
A mini abdominoplasty addresses issues with the flanks and lower abdomen only. This particular tummy tuck uses a C-section-like incision to remove and tighten lower abdominal skin. In most cases, a drain will by used after the procedure.
Lipoabdominoplasty is a procedure which combines liposuction and abdominoplasty to remove the excess fat and loose skin from the abdomen. The ideal patient has not only excess skin in their abdominal region, but also has stubborn fatty tissue. Combining traditional liposuction and an abdominoplasty together allows Dr. Michael Desvigne to offer optimal results to his patients.
What to Expect During and After the Procedure
what happens during the procedure?
During your procedure, incisions will be made depending on the desired type of tummy tuck you have decided to move forward with to remove excess skin and tighten the abdominal muscles.
what should i expect during my recovery?
After your tummy tuck, it may take around six weeks to fully recover. A garment should be worn over the treated area and you will have to wait twenty-four hours to bathe. The garment will help reduce swelling and bruising of the treated abdominal region. While healing, you should not lift, pull, or push heavy objects. You should remain cautious when performing daily activities. If drains are used, you will be required to keep a log to record the output of fluid.
